- Can't find your polymer application with SIDISTAR®?

At Elkem Materials, new improvements, applications and patents are developed for SIDISTAR®.

If you can't find the polymer you are working with in our current list, please contact us!  There's a high likelihood that we are already working on that application, and if not, we will be pleased to help you!

Fire Retardancy of Polymers Publication includes chapter by Elkem Materials Team

The evaluation of SIDISTAR® as an additive in polyamide to create a material having excellent mechanical properties and at the same time, high fire resistance, was summarised in a book chapter of the recently published RSC (The Royal Society of Chemistry) book:  "Fire Retardancy of Polymers - New Strategies and Mechanisms" (pages 35-48).  The chapter is entitled: "Amorphous Silicon Dioxide as Additive to Improve the Fire Retardancy of Polyamides", and is co-authored by G. Schmaucks, B. Friede, H. Schreiner and J.O. Roszinski.

The results indicate that the efficiency of this silica type as flame retardant additive depends on the polyamide type.

The dispersion of the silica particles was characterised by high resolution SEM and TEM, and the viscosity of the composites was measured using a rotational rheometer.
