SIDISTAR® R, - the Inorganic Viscosity Modifier

A spherically-shaped amorphous (non-crystalline) silicon dioxide, which has been specifically designed for rubber applications. Strict quality-controlled production assures a material with an average primary particle size of 150 nm. The nature of the material allows excellent dispersion down into primary particles in the polymer matrix. SIDISTAR® R is characterized by its very low specific surface of 20 m2/g (BET). The material is produced in a multi-step process, and originates from a high temperature gas phase production.

SIDISTAR® R is a unique type of amorphous silicon dioxide. It improves the dispersion of all compound ingredients in the mixing process, leading to well-balanced physical properties in the final product. Being itself dispersed as primary particles, it reduces internal friction and allows higher extrusion or injection speed, leading to significant cost savings.

SIDISTAR® R offers new opportunities for compound development, covering areas of properties not achievable with existing formulations. The Elkem Polymer Team is capable of providing recommendations for recipe development and processing technology in close co-operation with the customer, to meet specifications or end-user requirements.
